I had been fleeing the wildfires in Montana, Idaho, and eastern Washington State along a route that took me over the Cascade Range. At the point in my journey when I made this photo, the smoke and haze from the fires had lessened enough to make a good exposure.
I had been fleeing the wildfires in Montana, Idaho, and eastern Washington State along a route that took me over the Cascade Range. At the point in my journey when I made this photo, the smoke and haze from the fires had lessened enough to make a good exposure. I was six days into my photography road trip and had made about that same number of photos by this time. I was anxious to find a suitable subject and get some work accomplished. There was a turnout on the road and a marker for a trail. More importantly, I heard water running in a cascade and knew that meant the possibility of a waterfall. I flipped a u-turn and pulled into the turnout to park. After scrambling over boulders up a creek, I found it - a beautiful waterfall. In case you are wondering, the stream is named Pyramid Creek, which flows from an isolated lake by the same name. The map shows a trail to the lake. I looked and never found a path.
