An early winter storm was pushing through Death Valley in California, and I intended to be there for it. West of the park is an area popular with the off-road crowd and wanders such as myself called Trona Pinnacles. The site is desolate, except for the pinnacles, and camping is free. I arrived at dusk, and while searching for a place out of the wind (60mph gusts), I noticed the last bit of sunlight illuminating the top of Straw Peak. I quickly jumped out of my truck and snapped several photos spanning the mountain range. That was it, the sun had set, and I had a few images to work with to create the finished piece. This moody piece will set the tone anywhere it is displayed.
