This newly bloomed dragon fruit flower will last only a day. The bloom will dry up, and gravity will draw it toward the ground until it falls off.
This newly bloomed dragon fruit flower will last only a day. The bloom will dry up, and gravity will draw it toward the ground until it falls off. If pollination was successful, an excellent and large fruit will grow at the base of where the bloom was. Last summer and fall, my wife and I watched this plant grow up and over the fence we share with our neighbors. We had no idea what it was, or what fantastic fruit it produces. We also thought it was a cactus. It is not a cactus. This summer, we watch the plant as it climbs over the fence and enjoy watching the buds grow and then bloom for their short existence. We will treasure the fruit as a deep red, juicy, and mildly flavored treat in a few months.
